Minister of Music

 

Reports To:  Church Administrator & Choir Liaison Officer

 Position Status: Salaried; Permanent Part-time

 Position Summary: Organizes the church's music ministry by involving members in singing and playing instruments in order to create an atmosphere of worship during services and for special events.

General Description: The Minister of Music is responsible for the music life of the church, including the praise & work, choir music and instrumental music.

Job Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree, preferably in music.
  2. Experience and demonstrated proficiency in keyboard performance and  organ 
  3. Experience in the performance and selection of church music which
    reflects a broad variety of musical periods and styles.
  4. Collegial approach to work with other, including choir members, musicians and staff.

Specific Duties:

  1. Responsible for the development, nurturing, and direction of all choirs and music presented for worship services.
  2. Selection of songs, how presented and soloist
  3. Be versatile in selecting members to lead songs, while keeping in minded each singer’s ability
  4. Be prepared to add, delete and/or change songs and arrangements prior or during services at Pastor’s request
  5. Share with the Pastor and Choir President in accepting engagements for the choirs and special services
  6. Determine the length of practice time and frequency in coordination with the Choir President
  7. Be available for all choir rehearsals and engagements when practical and possible.  Inform the President,  Pastor, Choir Liaison Officer and Church Administrator of all planned and/or emergency absences
  8. Determine suitability of applicant (s) for the choir
  9. Attend all regularly scheduled church functions when possible
  10. Responsible for maintenance of organ, piano, and any other musical instruments or equipment, making recommendations to the Choir Liaison Officer and Church Administrator
  11. Develop and supervises other musicians
  12. Serves as a contact person and coordinator for visiting musicians or groups
  13. Arrange for substitute in the event of absence.

Funerals

  1.  Be available to serve as organist at funerals of members.
  2. Funeral for non-members are optional and payment to be arranged with the interested party.
  3. Benevolence cases are to be determined funeral coordinator.

Weddings

Wedding for members and non-members are optional and payment to be arranged with the interested party.

 Expectations

 

  1. Employee subscribes to and is in full agreement with the “I believe the Bible to  be the Word of God, the only infallible rule of faith and practice and that it has been clearly and consistently interpreted in ECOD “By-Laws Tenets of Faith and Doctrine”.
  2. Employee’s inability to perform his/her duties due to physical or conduct detrimental to the ministry shall result in termination.
